Located on beautiful grounds with an impressive atmosphere, Ireland's National Museum is made up of four major departments: Archaeology, Decorative Arts & History, Country Life, and Natural History (closed until further notice). The museums collect, preserve, and promote Ireland's proud heritage with an authoritative voice, and it does not disappoint. It opened in 1890, covering Irish history from 7,000 B.C. to the 20th century. Some of its prize displays include pre-historic tools, jewelry from the Bronze Age, the Shrine of St. Patrick's Bell, and the Ardagh Chalice from early Christian times. Be sure to check out the tearoom and gift shop. Entrance is free, and highly regarded tours are E 2 per person.
