You'll find the Chester Beatty Library at Dublin Castle in the 18th-century Clock Tower, which first appeared on a map published in 1756. The rich history of the building's architecture is a sight to see all by itself, and its library is home to one of the finest personal art collections in Western Europe. Beatty himself was a generous spirit, and in the library's exhibits you'll find a multitude of worldly art that caught his eye, from East Asian to Islamic. Material on the history of writing, bookbinding, printmaking, and calligraphy are housed in the Reading Room. A self-guided tour is most common; public tours last one hour and are offered at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays and 3 & 4 p.m. on Sundays.
